Can you say early?

So if you have not hear the story of the arrival of our little "Princess", then sit back, grab a beer, and enjoy the ride.

Monday 3/22/10

Karen wakes up feeling horrible, nauseous, and super tired. The trooper that she is she went to work anyway. Not feeling any better all day she came home and went right to bed feeling more nauseous than before. I tried to give her Benadryl since it is supposed to help with nausea. Karen mentioned that this could be a sign that her body chemistry could be changing in preparation for the baby coming. Me not being a Dr. had no idea. Jamison was worried all night about his Mommy and asked her over and over what was hurting her. He wanted badly to lay in the bed with her. We agreed that she would take the day off to see if she would feel better. She made a comment of " I can't be this weak and go into labor...I'll never make it." (or something like that) Karen finally fell asleep late that night but did not sleep well.

The following takes place between 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 pm

6 a.m.ish!! Karen's alarm went off. We kinda laid around and tried to shake the cobwebs. Karen said that she thought the baby dropped during the night.

Jamison woke up around 7 am yelling for me to come get him. He ran in to check on Mommy who made a comment that she was having bad cramps and could be a contraction. I paused and grabbed my iPod which had a labor counter on it. It was 7:02 the cramp lasted 7.2 seconds. I still did not believe she was starting labor but better to keep track and be wrong. Jamison got into bed with Karen and watched cartoons for a bit while I got ready for work. Then another contraction hit. But she was not sure it was a contraction. She said it felt like pressure and only on one side. Then another hit.
I decided I'd stay home with Karen and make sure she was going to be ok.

I stopped getting ready!!! I canceled my meeting for the day. I got Jamison ready for daycare quickly so I could get him there and take care of Karen. I also grabbed the unpacked suitcase and started throwing stuff in it. Karen called Dr. Burns to see if we could come in and have him check her out. Jamison did not like the idea of us leaving Mommy. He wanted her to ride with us to daycare...(more contractions). I hurried to daycare and dropped little man off and told them that today might be the day.

When I got home. Karen was downstairs and had kept up with the contractions on the iPod. They were 7 min apart. I still had no clue we were having a baby. After all we were still two weeks ahead of the due date and the ultrasound from the week prior said she was not ready. So I got out my measuring tape to check for dilation....ok no I didn't. The Drs. office never called back so we called them. While Karen was on the phone I ran to the basement and grabbed the infant car seat and bassinet. The Dr. said to come in right away. Oh $#it!!!!!! This is for real now!!!!

Contractions now 6 min apart. I still didn't know how close close was/is. So we jumped in the car, Karen in shorts and sweatshirt, partially packed bag, and that's it. I was driving as fast as I could in the late rush hour traffic. I didn't care about a ticket. I didn't want to have the baby in the car on the side of the road! Contractions continued and got stronger. We got about 5 miles from the house and Karen said "we don't have the camera!" Sooooooo back we went to the house for the camera!!!! I took the back road thinking that would be faster than lights....WRONG!!!

So got the camera and some towels just in case the water broke....I didn't want to deal with Dr. Mom if that got all over the seats? So down the Hwy we went pushing 85mph in rush hour traffic, passing an ambulance on the way trying to get an escort from them to no avail. I kept track of the contractions which were now 5 1/2 min apart. We ran into Dr. Burn office(9:45), found the good Dr. and he check Karen out. The nurse started gathering info from us and was typing it on the computer. Dr. Burns said "quit typing they are leaving! You need to get to the Hospital now you are having a baby". You are dialated 4-5. So we flew outta there me knocking people over and back down the hwy pushing 85+!!! I could tell Karen's contractions were getting stronger and she was in pain!! I pulled right in front of the door and jumped out. (10 ish) I grabbed Karen and rushed her inside and told the lady at the counter that she was in labor and needed to get to the 2nd floor now. She didn't think Karen was even pregnant. She grabbed a wheel chair and told me to go park the car. I parked grabbed the camera and RAN. I got to the floor at the same time as the lady pushing Karen. I kinda laughed cuz the lady was so outta breath. But she was doing her best.

They wheeled Karen in the room and got her changed and an IV hooked up, along with the baby monitor. The nursed were great and got things going quick. They asked if Karen wanted meds and she said yes but she need to get the bag of fluids in her body quick. We stopped tracking the contractions but they were 5 min apart and strong. She was crushing my hand...oh well!!! Dr. Burns showed up within 20 min and Karen knew something was up. The nurse updated Dr. Burns about pushing the fluids to get Karen ready for the meds. He said there was no time she was dialated 6-7. He said he lied so that it didn't freak us out and cause us to panic. He said this baby was coming and coming quick!!! OMG this it I thought!!!

I think Karen started pushing around 10:45 ish. Things went very fast as I said with Karen pushing and being strong. At one point she said she couldn't do it and the nursed reassured her she could. And she did!!! She pushed our little bundle of joy out at 11:36 am with no drugs what so ever!!! I'm very proud of her!!! The Dr. and nurses let me announce the sex and I cut the cord. INTENSE!!!

I'm goint to stop here. I may have some times wrong and some details off a bit and I'm sure Karen will correct me when she gets home tomorrow. Most of the pics will be located here on our picture site at http://adamsbrewerytoo.shutterfly.com

Wow what a blessing!!!
